Slap Magazine: Issue 75 November 2017
Hello and welcome to the November edition of SLAP, the penultimate issue of the year, in which we take a look back on October shenanigans around the counties as well as looking forward to what this month has to offer us.
Our front cover features the video shoot for our favourite local bard, Ian Passey, aka The Humdrum Express, taken during Stourbridge’s own zombie apocalypse.
In the arts we look at the American Prints from Pop Art at Worcester Museum, news of exhibitions at The Wilson in Cheltenham and the Broadway Museum and Art Gallery. There’s also news of exciting projects at Gin Lane, Dancefest and Studley’s Artists Workhouse as well as Meadow Arts and Garage Studios lecture series at the Hive.
We look forward to an exciting month in Hereford as we feature a preview to the upcoming Hereford Blues Festival at the Left Bank. We also eagerly anticipate the Heart of Anarchy Punk Festival, this year to be held at the Grapes following the closure of Booth Hall.
We’ll have no more talk of venue closures for the time being, as for once we have news of a new venue, the Marshall Rooms in Stroud has opened it’s doors to some interesting gigs. Great news too that the Pig and Drum in Worcester has re-opened as a dedicated rock bar. Also Pershore’s Number 8 has opened their newly refurbished foyer and performance space. Exciting times!
As usual we bring you reviews from many of the brilliant new releases from around the shires. Always with one eye on the unusual we feature ‘Ore’ - a new project by Sam Undewood which we shall follow up next month with a review.
We now at long last have our own comedy editor, as we welcome on board Alex Redmond who will be keeping us up to date with all things comedic.
So that’s it for now, enjoy your November and keep supporting the Local Arts & Performers...
