Slap Magazine: Issue 76 December 2017 to January 2018
Season’s greetings everyone and welcome to our 76th Issue which marks the completion of seven years of austerity, ‘er - I mean SLAP!!
As usual we bring you all the arts news, arts festivals, events and exhibitions, highlighting the vibrant all-year-round arts scene we have around here. Such as the Bromsgrove Festival of Light and Dancefest (the subject of our front cover). Now all we have to do now as a community is support it...!
On to the local music scene where a few exciting things have been happening... A month or so ago local exiles Soeur were invited to record a live session for the Radio 1 Rock Show at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios. Huge congratulations to Christina, Anya and James for whom a dream came true as it was played on the 26th November, right on our deadline!
We report on the success of another local rock outfit - Malvern based Nuns of the Tundra - who have reached the last three acts in the national Firestone battle of the Bands. From over 300 applicants they are through to the final to take place on December 14th. Best of luck to Troy, Arran, Jim and Melos.
As this is a double issue (yes that’s right I have a month off - ed), our listings pages are cram packed as we try to include as many January dates as possible. It certainly won’t be them all but we will keep our online gig guide as up to date as we can. So please check in regularly at www.slapmag.co.uk/events/ for ongoing additions.
It just remains for me to wish you all a happy winter Solstice. Be good to each other, don’t spend too much and try to and support the arts in your area as best you can. As always, if you see something that inspires you, why not let us know by writing about it. Any scene will only prosper with the support of you and I - the public, so why not get out there and do your bit.
See you on the other side...!
