Thank you for picking up a copy of SLAP. Don’t worry, you havn’t stolen it, it’s FREE! Think of this as a one stop reference guide to what's going on in Worcester and the surrounding area. SLAP aims to give you an insight, from month to month, into live music, comedy, theatre and the visual arts. Our priority is to support local bands, artists and performers but also to keep you informed of other artists playing locally. As the magazine beds in we aim to expand to include other areas of the county.

Times are tough for many of us, including venues, artists/performers and arts organisations in the county. We will keep you abreast of what’s happening and the issues that are being faced. In this issue, Ralph Tittley appraises the history of live music in Malvern and the problems it currently faces, as well as offering a personal reflection on Captain Beefheart, who recently passed away.

Performers now have to do so much more than write, record and perform. The myriad of ways to self promotion are sometimes confusing and sometimes so obvious that they get overlooked, so Andy O’Hare will be offering his Top Tips in next month’s issue. One of his main tips is getting the public to know that you are playing or have released a single or album – and that includes us here at SLAP! Put your gig on NotJustSauce.com it’s FREE and likewise drop an email to listings@slapmag.co.uk. Fancy submitting an article or review? Or simply keep us updated with your news and views?
