Music Spoken Here presents: Headquarters of Groove
The Marr’s Bar, Worcester
Saturday 16th March, Doors 8PM / Starts 8:30

Worcester promoter Music Spoken Here has established a regular club night at The Marr’s Bar, presenting the very best in UK jazz, funk & fusion every other Thursday. This weekend they add a Saturday to the program, featuring the West Midlands 7-piece band Headquarters of Groove.

Scene instigator Dave Fuller said

There aren’t many places in the West Midlands to hear the music we showcase being played live, so we get people travelling quite a distance to get to our Thursday night events. We got feedback from a few people who want to come more regularly but find it difficult on a ‘school night’. So, we’re trying out one or two Saturday nights this year to gauge interest. If they are well attended, we’ll consider extending our program to a more regular Saturday residency at The Marr’s Bar.

Headquarters of Groove is the brainchild of Dudley producer, composer and keyboardist Roy Linton. Inspired by soul, house, funk and Latin, Linton was writing music but wanted a full band to play it live rather than just recording electronically in his studio. He put out an advert, resulting in the 7-piece band featuring Birmingham-based Jodi Matthews (vocals), Andy Thomas (guitar) and Ted Woodley (bass), John Sanderson from Derbyshire on sax and flute, Mahendra Patel from Coventry on percussion and Evesham resident André Bayliss on drums. They all found their ‘musical home’ with playing with Headquarters of Groove, being drawn to music with great basslines, lots of Fender Rhodes, and groove that makes people move.

Expect a balanced mix of Acid Jazz and Latin funk classics from the Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Jamiroquai, Roy Ayers and Azymuth along with the band’s original music. Doors open at 8PM and the party starts at 8:30.

Music Spoken Here don’t do tickets – just show up on the night and pay what you can afford, cash or card, on the door. (Suggested contribution £10-15). Alternatively, you can become a Club Member [https://musicspokenhere.club/a-new-approach/club-membership/] and get free entry to all Music Spoken Here events at The Marr’s Bar!
