This summer marks the arrival of The Global Collective, a new dance music project from celebrated composer and producer Nigel Shaw. A fresh branch of the much-loved Global vintage dance music family, the project draws together a diverse and ever-shifting line-up, featuring Carolyn Hillyer, Bethan Lloyd, Isaac Ray, Jodie White and Ric Hollingbery – plus a host of special guests along the way.
The Collective’s sound carries the heartbeat of Global’s wild, shamanic trance-dance heritage, now reimagined for an acoustic-infused world music setting. Nigel blends synths, percussion and flutes with Carolyn’s evocative vocals, ceremonial drumming and lyricism. Bethan adds a haunting vocal edge and powerful words; Isaac’s synths and drum machines inject pulsing energy; Jodie’s drums and percussion deliver irresistible rhythmic drive; and Ric’s violin weaves delicate, melodic threads through the whole tapestry.
Festival audiences can experience this unique fusion at some of the UK’s most atmospheric gatherings. Confirmed appearances include Glastonbury Festival, the Green Gathering and Medicine Festival, with more dates to follow.
Alongside their live debut, The Global Collective is in the studio recording brand-new material, set for release later in the summer. In the meantime, fans can immerse themselves in GLOBAL: Hope/Rebellion – the first new Global recordings in over two decades. Featuring Nigel alongside Brian Abbott (guitar), Shaun Farrenden (didgeridoo), Carolyn and guest vocalist Bethan Lloyd, the EP is a windstorm of shamanic trance-dance, hypnotic techno and deep dub grooves – a bridge between the past and the new chapter that lies ahead.
Expect ritual beats, soaring melodies and a communal, transformative energy – whether you’re dancing barefoot under festival skies or letting the rhythms carry you far from home.
