Malvern-based project invites Worcestershire musicians to join a new creative ensemble
Local composer and creative producer Nakisha is calling on musicians and music groups from across Malvern and Worcestershire to take part in Community Variations – A Tribute to Elgar, an ambitious new project that reimagines the spirit of Elgar’s Enigma Variations for today’s musical landscape. Inspired by Elgar’s deep local roots and his portraits of friends through music, Nakisha’s project celebrates community, creativity, and individuality.
Each “variation” will be shaped by the musicians involved, resulting in a performance that blends classical and contemporary influences — a meeting of tradition and innovation. “Elgar’s Variations captured the personalities of the people around him,” says Nakisha. “This project brings that concept home to Worcestershire — celebrating the voices, sounds, and stories that make our community unique.” The ensemble will combine amateur and professional musicians, welcoming individuals and established music groups who are confident in their playing and comfortable working collaboratively.
This is not a project for beginners, but for those eager to be part of something artistically adventurous. Nakisha is especially keen to hear from guitarists (particularly those confident in playing lead) and musicians who play unconventional or contemporary instruments — from folk, jazz, or world traditions to electronic or experimental setups — to create a rich and distinctive soundscape beyond the standard orchestral palette. Workshops and rehearsals will take place from February 2026, leading up to a public performance on Friday 23rd May 2026 in Malvern. Participants will need to be available for both the preparatory sessions and the performance. “We’re creating a space where musical styles can meet,” Nakisha explains. “Whether you play violin, guitar, clarinet, synth, or something completely different — if you’re confident, creative, and curious, you’ll have something to bring.”
