Spreading their roots beyond the underground Birmingham alt scene, Rooted, a self-proclaimed ‘grunge-flavoured pop-rock band’, is ready to be heard.
No stranger to the stage or studio, the young band has supported ALT BLK ERA, Marissa and the Moths, and Battlesnake on their UK tours and have headlined the Road to Lakefest stage at Lakefest 2024 and the Brum special, Asylum 2.
With their latest EP, ‘Think it Over’, blasting through the speakers, listeners are bound to be ‘spiralling out’ of 2025 and straight into the 1990s grunge-pop scene. From raw vocals bringing texture to their lyrics to the restlessly energetic drums, Rooted offers a hand to scratch that nostalgic genre we seem to miss these days.
Opening on the energetic ‘Sprialling Out’, Rooted offers a perfect tune for a crazy crowd to get sweaty with. Closely following behind is ‘Mistakes’. Another song that can give gig-goers a great reason to jump around and scream: ‘I wonder why I always feel this way’ into their beer bottles.
Halfway through the EP, listeners are given a softer experience with ‘Moth Song’, which offers a vibey distortion to close your eyes and nod to after headbanging to their opening singles. The flow of this single offers a welcomed balance before picking up the pace with ‘Dahlia’ and ‘Supersonic’ to end the listening experience with a rock-heavy finale, or so we thought…
Before our time with ‘Think it Over’ ends, we are gifted a gritty take on Rihanna’s upbeat pop song, ‘Shut Up and Drive’, ending the EP on a number we can all dance to.
Despite only dropping studio work earlier this year, the group are not stopping here. Rooted are ready to work on more releases and are continuing to perform to their alternative crowds in the city of Birmingham and beyond.
