Special Friend
Faucet Van Gough + Heavy Focus
Wednesday 11th March – The Victoria, Birmingham Doors: 7:30 pm
The Victoria welcomes an evening of hazy indie textures, noise pop charm and rising local talent as Special Friend headline on Wednesday, 11th March, joined by Faucet Van Gough and Heavy Focus.
Paris via Minneapolis duo Special Friend have spent the past few years carving out a distinctive space in the indie noise pop world. Formed in 2018 by Erica Ashleson and Guillaume Siracusa, their music blends minimalist arrangements with warm, understated melodies, drawing comparisons to Yo La Tengo, Duster and Electrelane.
Their latest album, Wait Until the Flames Come Rushing In (2023), expands their sonic palette with keyboards, violin and richer textures, while retaining the duo’s signature balance of restraint, noise and melodic clarity. Live, their songs unfold with a gentle intensity: intimate, hypnotic and full of subtle emotional weight.
Main support comes from Birmingham’s Faucet Van Gough, a rising indie rock outfit whose melodic sensibility and DIY spirit have quickly made them one to watch. Expect sharp hooks, jangling guitars and a set that leans into the charm of classic indie while keeping things fresh.
Opening the night are Heavy Focus, a four piece blending indie‑folk warmth with alternative edge. Inspired by Big Thief, Alvvays and The Smiths, their intricate songwriting and emotive melodies offer a modern take on timeless guitar music that is delicate in places, punchy in others, and full of promise.
A beautifully curated mid week bill, bringing together international indie craft and emerging Midlands talent. A perfect night for fans of thoughtful, atmospheric guitar music.
