Music Spoken Here presents Resolution 88
The Marr’s Bar, 12 Pierpoint Street, Worcester WR1 1TA
Thursday 23rd October, 7:30pm doors / 8pm start
£15 on the door

One of the UK’s leading exponents of funk jazz is set to return to The Marr’s Bar in Worcester on Thursday 23rd October. Resolution 88 first visited the city in November 2022 as the fourth event on the nascent jazz, funk and fusion program curated by Worcestershire promoter Music Spoken Here, which has now seen over 250 musicians perform at the venue, many appearing for the first tie in the city.

Bandleader, composer and keyboardist Tom O’Grady has collaborated on several projects with his vocalist wife Vanessa Haynes, including a recent world tour together in James Mason’s band that culminated in two sold-out shows at London’s Jazz Café in August. An aficionado of the Fender Rhodes electric piano, an instrument he first became interested in at the age of 12 listening to Jamiroquai, he went on to join Incognito for their 2016 World Tour and the following year featured on bandleader Bluey’s ‘Rhodes to Forever’ EP dedicated to the instrument that is synonymous with the jazz-funk of the 70s and 80s.

Since their last visit to Worcester, Resolution 88 have released their fourth studio album ‘Vortex’, launched at Ronnie Scott’s last year. Their music fuses the sound of the modern London jazz scene with the inspirational greats of the 70s such as Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters and the classic Mizell Brothers productions on Blue Note.

O’Grady is joined by Tiago Coimbra (bass), Oli Blake (percussion) and Richard Elsworth (drums). The original saxophonist Alex Hitchcock moved to New York since their last appearance and has been replaced by the incredibly versatile Tom Smith.

Doors open at 7:30pm with DJ Moore Fe Jazz entertaining what is expected to be a packed house, until the band start around 8pm. Admission is ‘pay what you can’ on the door with the suggested contribution of £15 per person. For more information visit the Music Spoken Here website
