Legendary Blues Rock Storyteller – John Fiddler Live
at the Marrs Bar
Friday 26th September 2025, Worcester
This autumn sees a rare and intimate evening with John Fiddler – founder member, voice and songwriter of iconic 70s blues rock outfit Medicine Head – as he brings his solo show to the Marrs Bar in Worcester.
Part concert, part storytelling session, Fiddler’s solo performances are a chance to hear the music that defined a generation alongside the tales behind it. Expect a night that dips into the Medicine Head songbook, showcases fresh material from his acclaimed new album Heartwork, and offers first-hand memories of one of the most remarkable journeys in British rock.
Medicine Head first emerged in 1968, when Fiddler teamed up with harmonica player Peter Hope-Evans. Within a year they’d caught the ear of John Peel – and, thanks to a nudge from John Lennon himself – signed to Peel’s Dandelion Records. With early champions including Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend, the band soon carved out their place in rock history.
Their debut single His Guiding Hand was hailed by Peel as “one of the classics of all time” and treasured in his legendary Record Box. Albums such as New Bottles, Old Medicine (recorded in just two hours), Heavy on the Drum (produced by Yardbirds’ Keith Relf) and 1972’s Dark Side of the Moon (predating Pink Floyd’s opus of the same name) cemented their reputation.
A run of chart successes followed, with One & One Is One soaring to No.3 in the UK Singles Chart, and hits like Rising Sun and Slip and Slide bringing Medicine Head to wider audiences. Though the line-up changed over the years, Fiddler has remained the beating heart of the band, carrying the name forward with new music and powerful live shows.
Fast-forward to today, and Heartwork – his latest release – has been warmly received by critics on both sides of the Atlantic, praised for its honesty, soul and finely-crafted songs.
For fans of classic blues rock, Worcester’s Marrs Bar promises an unmissable night: one man, his guitar, and a treasure chest of stories and songs that span over five decades of music.Tickets available now – advance booking highly recommended
