The Midlands metal underground reunites this September as rising West Midlands force Mount Slatra celebrate the release of their long awaited EP, Divine in Ruin, on September 1st. The band headline a stacked bill that brings together some of the region’s fiercest emerging talent, forged in the crucible of this year’s Metal 2 the Masses Birmingham competition.

Opening the night with a heavy sludge/doom/death sound, we have Worcestershire’s own Aonach (pronounced Ay-nakh). Their catalogue is available now via Bandcamp and other streaming services, with standout track Darker Side of Sane showcasing the band’s ability to balance relentless heaviness with bleak, hypnotic groove. A combination of crushing riffs and commanding vocals sets the tone for the evening.

Daring to follow is Birmingham-based groove/death newcomers, Destination Disease, fresh from the release of their ferocious debut single Decapitator. The track has quickly established them as a band to watch, combining pummelling riff work with raw, unflinching aggression. With momentum firmly at their backs, their live presence promises to be nothing short of brutal.

At the centre of it all stands Mount Slatra, a name that has quickly become synonymous with the next wave of West Midlands heaviness. In less than a year, the band have left an indelible mark: reaching the finals of Birmingham’s Metal 2 the Masses on their first attempt, supporting US thrash icons Warbringer, and being featured on the BBC’s Forging Metal series. Divine in Ruin marks a defining moment for the quartet, distilling their crushing live energy into a recorded statement of intent, with tracks like Soul Thief capturing their ferocity and ambition.

This isn’t just an EP launch, it’s a showcase of the future of Midlands metal. Miss it at your peril.
