Single cover for Resident Evil by The Human Error

The dictionary definition of the phrase “human error” pithily states “is a mistake made by a person”. However, make no mistake The Human Error of WR1, following their intended artistic endeavours have produced a new single and there is no mistaking the Error’s punkish élan.

The single “Resident Evil” works on a number of levels? Moreover, “Resident Evil” celebrates the highly successful gaming franchise and playing well into the night – every night. Or the central character in the song adopts the persona of an individual obsessed with knives. In the now, the rise of knife crimes across the country is a concern for all. Either way “the Error” appearto have captured the sinister undercurrent.

The Human Error are as contemporary as a hastily daubed roundabout at the end of the street.

The streets of our favoured urchins inform the lyrics and indeed the language choices. The opening line – “Who needs friends, when I’ve got knives” – alerts the listener to the misanthropic sentiment of the song and is quite the opening statement. And as a comment on the now, the line “The apocalypse is here, night after night” suggests you might want to stay in with your comforting controller rather than stepping outside?

Like all good Punk singers, Joe Ree, sings from the back of his throat. Informal training demands this reality. Accordingly, The Error’s signature sound is instantly recognisable to my ears. The electric buzz of Ree’s guitar, the Tiggerish bass line of Joe Brown’s four strings and the urgent imperative of Adam Welsh’s drumming patterns are as familiar as the constant need for language to evolve and morph.

The dictionary definition for Punk is nebulous, needs updating and reframing to accommodate the movement. Furthermore, the new offering by Human Error is so much more than “fast music” itis totally skibidi and you would be delulu to think otherwise…no cap!

The single is available now on Bandcamp.
