Worcester jazz lovers are in for a rare treat this July as West Coast Sound, a dynamic local jazz octet, make their debut city centre appearance at the intimate and stylish Bottles Wine Bar on Wednesday 9th July.

Following a near sell-out debut at Malvern Cube, and standout performances at Priory Park and the Upton Jazz Festival, the band have been making serious waves across the region. Their fresh approach to classic repertoire has caught the ear of jazz aficionados and casual listeners alike.

Featuring a 5-horn front line, West Coast Sound specialise in the golden age of cool West Coast jazz. Audiences can expect rarely-heard arrangements from the legendary Miles Davis “Birth of the Cool” sessions, alongside charts from scene-defining figures like Gerry Mulligan, Shorty Rogers, Lennie Niehaus, and Bill Holman.

The group’s polished yet playful approach evokes the laid-back sophistication of 1950s California jazz clubs — think intricate arrangements, smooth textures, and swinging rhythms, all delivered with charm and precision.

Paired with Bottles’ expertly curated selection of fine wines, craft beers and cocktails, this promises to be an evening of top-shelf music and atmosphere in equal measure.

Whether you’re a lifelong jazz fan or simply fancy something a little different on a summer evening, this is not a gig to miss.
