Multi-award-winning broadcaster and BAFTA-nominated filmmaker James Fox will visit Worcester to launch his latest book, Craftland, at Script Haven on Thursday 23rd October at 7pm, as part of his nationwide tour.

Best known for his acclaimed BBC documentaries, Fox now turns his lens on Britain’s endangered traditions. Craftland is a vivid journey through the disappearing skills that once shaped daily life across these islands — from wheelwrights and blacksmiths to cutlers, coopers, watchmakers and bell-founders. Meeting the last surviving masters of their trades, Fox offers not only a glimpse into the past but a reminder of the wisdom such crafts still hold for our future.

Leena Batchelor, owner of Script Haven, said: “We are delighted to welcome such a renowned author and speaker to our bookshop. Events like this enrich the cultural life of the city and form the heart of Script Haven’s ethos.”

In an age dominated by the digital, Craftland makes a powerful case for the value of human craft — the quiet skills that shape, repair and enrich our world. It is a book that celebrates the enduring connection between creativity, tradition and the material things that surround us.

Alongside his broadcasting work, Fox is Director of Studies in History of Art at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Creative Director of the Hugo Burge Foundation, which supports arts and crafts across Britain. He is also the author of the acclaimed The World According to Colour: A Cultural History.
