The Castle and Falcon – Birmingham 24th March 2024

and also the trees will be promoting their new album Mother-of-pearl Moon at a rare UK live show in Birmingham at the Castle & Falcon on 24th March followed by six dates in Belgium and France in early April.

Formed amidst the original post-punk movement in rural Worcestershire, and also the trees (AATT) draws enduring inspiration from their countryside roots, exploring both the shadowy depths and scenic beauty of Britain in their music. They’re renowned for their captivating live shows, characterized by a distinctive mandolin-like electric guitar style, evocative lyrics, and dark jazz rhythms. Their fiercely upheld creative independence has endured for over four decades.

AATT quickly caught the attention of Robert Smith from The Cure, who invited them to join his group on tour multiple times. Smith was also involved in their early recordings, alongside bandmate Lol Tolhurst, cementing a lasting friendship and mutual respect. This bond was further solidified when AATT was invited to perform at the 2018 edition of the Meltdown festival in London, curated by Smith.

Founded by singer Simon Jones and guitarist Justin, AATT has maintained a steady presence on the global post-punk, alternative rock, and Gothic scenes. With fifteen studio albums under their belt, they’ve toured extensively across mainland Europe, North America, and Japan, amassing a substantial following in each region.

The panoramic soundscapes of AATT’s latest album, ‘Mother-of-pearl Moon’, were born from extraordinary electric guitar improvisations conducted during solitary pre-dawn and post-dusk sessions in 2020. Enriched by vocal, clarinet, piano, percussion, autoharp, and Moog, the album takes listeners on a transcendent journey from the depths of the English countryside to the far reaches of the compass.
