17 September, Kitchen Garden Café, Birmingham

Dutch-British singer-songwriter and composer Tessa Rose Jackson brings The Lighthouse With Strings tour to Birmingham’s Kitchen Garden Café on 17 September, performing live with a string quartet.

The tour follows the release of The Lighthouse With Strings (Live at Metropolis), a live EP that reimagines seven songs from Jackson’s acclaimed third album, The Lighthouse. Recorded in a single day at Metropolis Studios with string quartet, guitar and Wurlitzer, the performances strip away studio polish, allowing the emotional heart of the songs to come firmly to the fore.

The Lighthouse marked a significant turning point for Jackson, returning to her own name after years of releasing music as Someone. Rich in ghostly folklore, spectral folk and cinematic alt-pop, the album explores mortality, memory, identity and gratitude, while ultimately celebrating the fragile beauty of life. It earned widespread critical acclaim, including The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Month, with further praise from The Wire, Clash, Wonderland and The Line of Best Fit.

Now, Jackson takes the string quartet arrangement on the road, performing the songs as they were recorded – live, together, strings and all. Following festival appearances at Latitude and Deershed, this promises to be an intimate and beautifully reimagined take on one of the year’s most acclaimed records.
