Worcestershire promoter Music Spoken Here returns from the summer break with an exciting new season of “Kind of Jazz”, featuring the best new and established talent taking jazz into new territory. The programme, now in its fifth year at The Marr’s Bar in Worcester, restarts on Thursday 10th September with the young Birmingham-based jazz-fusion outfit Boomslang.
Headed up by bassist Kyle Welch, Boomslang’s music draws on the fusion legacy of Chick Corea’s Electric band, the precision of Tribal Tech and the boundary-breaking intensity of Squarepusher. The band thrive on real-time musical conversation, demonstrating a perfect balance of technical brilliance and deep groove. Saxophonist Nat Evans adds an electric edge to his playing, switching between tenor saxophone and Electric Wind Instrument (EWI) to deliver soaring lead lines using an expanded sound palette, with Nathan Thomas delivering twisting, complex harmonies and breakneck solos on keys while drummer Dom Holyoake keeps everyone tight and groovy.
