Anglo-Irish activist and musician Luke Concannon is back with a brand-new album and a run of headline UK shows. Best remembered as one half of folk duo Nizlopi – the pair behind the 2005 chart-topper JCB and an early inspiration for Ed Sheeran – Concannon now steps out with Midnight Bloom, set for release on 14th November.
It’s his first new record in four years, marking a joyful yet hard-hitting return after a lengthy battle with illness. Following a punishing tour that left him with burnout and IBS, Concannon endured three difficult years of poor health and creative silence. His recovery began in rural Vermont, where he and his wife Stephanie bought woodland and built a yurt together. Mornings spent writing in the forest rekindled his creative spark, and soon after the arrival of their son Oran, new songs blossomed into the material for Midnight Bloom.
The album carries a powerful message of resilience, hope and renewal – themes that feel timely in an unsettled world. Concannon’s story reflects that ethos: grounded in community, rooted in nature, and deeply personal.
With early memories of falling asleep at Irish family parties to the sound of guitars and voices, music has always been at the heart of Concannon’s life. His partnership with bassist John Parker in Nizlopi sold over a million records and inspired a generation, but when the duo parted ways, Concannon’s journey as a solo artist truly began. From his debut Give It All to 2022’s acclaimed Ecstatic Bird in the Burning – which reached No. 12 in the folk charts on both sides of the Atlantic – his voice has only grown stronger.
Now, with Midnight Bloom, Luke Concannon returns to the stage with passion and purpose.
