Gig Preview: PINS with Bureau De Change + Phwoar
Thursday, 14th May – Actress & Bishop, Birmingham – Doors: 7:30 pm
A night of sharp‑edged post‑punk, feminist fire and DIY indie spirit hits Actress & Bishop on Thursday, 14th May, as PINS headline, joined by special guests Bureau De Change and Phwoar.
Manchester’s PINS, comprised of Faith Vern, Lois Macdonald, Kyoko Swan and Abbi Phillips, have long been celebrated for their danceable, razor‑cool post‑punk, earning praise from The Guardian, Interview Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar and Stereogum, as well as support from icons like Iggy Pop and Jamie Hince.
Now signed to Clue Records and working on new material at Holy Mountain Studios in Hackney, the band are entering a fresh creative era. Their recent single ‘I’ll Be Yours’ offers a glimpse of what’s ahead, with more releases and live dates promised throughout the year.
PINS’ live reputation is formidable: they’ve torn through SXSW, taken on the main stage at Reading & Leeds, and supported Sleater‑Kinney, The Breeders, The Cribs, Stereophonics and more.
Their discography charts a bold evolution, from the jangly, surf‑tinged post‑punk of Wild Nights (recorded at Rancho De La Luna with Dave Catching) to the sleek, electronic textures of Hot Slick, shaped with collaborators including Jamie Hince, Dean Honer and Nathan Saoudi of Fat White Family.
In 2025, the band celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Wild Nights with a UK tour, reconnecting with their raw, analogue‑driven roots through the use of tape machines, film photography and 8mm videos, reaffirming their commitment to tactile, imperfect, fiercely human art.
Supporting PINS are the brilliantly chaotic Bureau De Change, whose debut EP ‘Are You Flirting With Me?’ was described as “four atonal anthems” full of blistering musicianship, sardonic humour and feminist bite. Their follow‑up EP is already on the way, with new single ‘Dumb Men’ out now.
Known for their sharp political edge, disjointed post‑punk structures and a wall‑of‑sound live presence, they’re one of the most distinctive new voices in the UK’s ever‑evolving post‑punk landscape.
Opening the night are Birmingham two‑piece Phwoar, bringing fizzy alt‑indie energy, DIY charm and infectious hooks. With their EP ‘Flowers Through the Concrete’ and a debut UK headline tour behind them, 2026 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year.
A thrilling Thursday night of post‑punk swagger, experimental noise and indie fizz that’s perfect for anyone who loves their live music bold, stylish and unapologetically full of attitude.
