Rising star jazz trumpeter Klara Devlin returns to Worcester on Thursday 8th October for the third time on the progressive “Kind of Jazz” series at The Marr’s Bar, programmed by Worcestershire promoter Music Spoken Here.
Described by jazz saxophonist Tony Kofi as “One of the most amazing and unique new trumpet voices to emerge onto the UK jazz scene”, Devlin came to national attention in 2024, aged 18, as a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year. She started playing trumpet aged 5, discovered jazz three years later and joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) Academy the following year. At 12, she joined the London-based artist development programme run by Tomorrow’s Warriors, where she was later selected to join their flagship female, eight-piece ensemble Frontline. She is now studying her second year at the Royal Academy of Music.
Devlin made her Worcester debut on the Music Spoken Here programme in February 2025, when she appeared with fellow Tomorrow’s Warrior, Miranda Radford’s quartet, in a four-part series of gigs featuring drummer-led bands. She returned in February this year with Ankora, the ‘graduated’ Tomorrow’s Warriors Frontline lineup. This time she brings her own quartet, featuring fellow RAM student Emmanuel Ampong on drums and Trinity Laban students Chris Outhwaite on piano and bassist Tom Sheen, also returning to Worcester after appearing alongside Devlin in the Miranda Radford Quartet last year.
