Single Review: More Than Us by White Noise Cinema
More Than Us the new single, and the third from an upcoming album by White Noise Cinema, is out now. Above a musical instrumental choir, the song bursts into questions, delving into who we are, where we’re from and what we could be. Distinctive vocals of Benjamin soaring over hypnotic melodies throughout. Harmonies of instrument and voice stitch together to produce an epic “soundtrack” worthy tune. I could definitely hear this song in a movie, during a scene where the devil rises or an angel turns bad.
This is apparently one of the very first songs the band ever played as White Noise Cinema. Its a track that was born as a demo in a freezing cold rehearsal room. The inclusion of intense backing vocals from Ange Lloyd and the masterful production of Gavin Monaghan and Liam Radburn at Magic Garden Recording Studio, has elevated that original demo into the track we hear today. The sound of organs amongst the background music, and Anges vocals adding an element of a gospel choir fit well for the accompanying video, which is set in a church (St Annes Church in Bewdley, to be precise).
The lyrics delivered as a sermon, with rhythmic clapping to punctuate the lines. As the music intensifies, the video setting turns darker and more sinister, delivering a message the band see as more relatable now than when the song was first written. The band give thanks to Darren Richards the bringer of light as the lead in their official video, and Still Light Photography for the stunning film work.
I’ve seen White Noise Cinema live several times, and to see the equipment they have on stage and everything that goes into their music, you can truly appreciate the layers that are built up to create the sound that they produce. Must see band if you can catch them.
