Gig Preview: JUNIPER with Claire Boswell & The B12’s and Guitar Work: Workestra
Saturday 14th November – St Swithuns Institute, Worcester – Doors: 6.30pm
Worcester Source is back in action following the post-festival madness of Worcester Music Festival, with a November gig bringing together contemporary folk, country-tinged folk-rock and an internationally renowned guitar ensemble.
Taking place on Saturday 14th November, the line-up features JUNIPER, supported by Worcester singer-songwriter Claire Boswell & The B12’s and international instrumental outfit Guitar Work: WORKESTRA. Three distinctive acts, one stage and a bargain night of live music.
Described by Folk/Tumble’s Gerry McNally as “truly folk music for the 21st century”, JUNIPER are six close friends whose musical influences collide in a richly textured sound that moves between Celtic-inspired tunes, driving riffs and soaring orchestral arrangements. Funk, Americana, house and rock all find their way into the mix, with moments of explosive energy balanced by passages of delicate musicianship.
Songlines’ Nathaniel Handy has praised the band as “one of the tightest outfits on the English folk scene”, and their live performances have earned a reputation for being both powerful and mesmerising. Their second studio album, Halfway Home, arrives in 2026, created with producer and guest artist Cormac Byrne, known for his work with The Haar and the Seth Lakeman Band. The record brings together the different strands of JUNIPER’s sound in what promises to be their most ambitious release yet.
Opening the evening’s roots-inspired side of the bill, Claire Boswell & The B12’s bring a fresh take on country-folk, blending folk-rock with blues and jazz influences. The Worcester singer-songwriter first attracted international attention with her self-released debut album in 2014, earning praise from BBC Radio 2 Folk’s Mike Harding and a place in The Telegraph’s Top Folk Albums of the Year. Her music has taken her from Belgium to Nashville, and after stepping back during the pandemic years, she returns with a renewed sound and The B12’s alongside her.
Taking the evening in a different direction, Guitar Work: WORKESTRA offer an instrumental performance shaped by decades of international collaboration and exploration. Rooted in the Guitar Craft seminars and the League of Crafty Guitarists, Guitar Work is a community dedicated to developing a deeper relationship with the guitar, music and the self.
WORKESTRA is its international performance ensemble, bringing together intricate arrangements of rock, classical and folk music alongside original compositions. Playing exclusively in the distinctive Guitar Craft tuning, the group has toured South America, Europe and the USA, combining technical precision with an emphasis on performance and audience participation.
With three acts bringing very different musical perspectives to the same bill, Worcester Source’s November gathering promises an evening that moves well beyond the predictable. And at just £10 in advance, it’s an opportunity to catch some genuinely distinctive live music without breaking the bank.
