Gig Preview: Big Gilson & Blues Dynamite
Henry’s Blueshouse, Barbara’s Bier Haus, Broad Street, Birmingham
Tuesday 6 October
Doors 7pm | Live music 8–10pm | Free entry
Brazilian blues legend Big Gilson brings his blistering slide guitar and blues-rock band to Birmingham next week for a free gig at Henry’s Blueshouse.
The Rio de Janeiro guitarist and vocalist appears at Barbara’s Bier Haus on Broad Street on Tuesday 6 October, as part of his Back2Blues UK Tour 2026.
A pioneer of the Brazilian blues scene, Big Gilson has spent almost four decades touring internationally, building a reputation for his powerful electric slide guitar and a sound that combines raw Chicago blues with high-energy blues-rock.
Expect a set mixing Big Gilson’s own material with his takes on classics from blues greats including John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Etta James, Elmore James, Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed and Freddie King.
His career has already seen him share stages with some serious blues and rock royalty, including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood and Robert Cray, while his 18-album catalogue includes acclaimed live recordings made in New York, Dallas and Florida.
For this Birmingham date, Big Gilson will be joined by The Blues Dynamite UK, featuring drummer Chris Sharley – formerly of Sassafras and the Mick Clarke Band – alongside bassist Derek White and keyboard player Ian Salisbury, both from Larry Miller’s band.
And there’s even more reason to get down early. Doors are at 7pm, live music runs from 8–10pm, and drinks are 50% off until 10pm. Best of all, admission is completely free.
With a rare chance to catch one of Brazil’s leading blues musicians in the Midlands, this one looks set to be a busy night at Henry’s Blueshouse.
