Gig Preview: Joe & The Shitboys + Birthrite
Wednesday 7th October – The Victoria, Birmingham
Doors: 7:30 pm
A night of unapologetic punk chaos arrives at The Victoria on Wednesday 7th October as Faroe Islands provocateurs Joe & The Shitboys headline, joined by special guests Birthrite.
Self-described as “queer vegan shitpunks”, Joe & The Shitboys formed with the aim of calling out the homophobia, misogyny and conservative attitudes they encountered growing up in the Faroe Islands. Since then, they’ve expanded their mission to take aim at vibe killers everywhere, creating a fiercely political, hilariously confrontational and relentlessly entertaining brand of punk rock that has earned them a cult following around the world.
Their live shows have become the stuff of legend. Built around a barrage of songs that often barely scrape the one-minute mark, the band fire through tracks like Save The Planet You Dumb Shit, Life Is Great You Suck and If You Believe In Eating Meat Start With Your Dog, while frontman Joe keeps audiences on their toes with relentless crowd interaction and razor-sharp humour.
Made up of Joe, Ziggy Shit, Johnny Shit and Ollie Shit, the band have spent the last few years playing virtually everywhere imaginable, from skateparks and museums to public toilets and even the opening ceremony of a North Atlantic subsea tunnel. Along the way, they’ve become festival favourites across Europe and North America while releasing three critically acclaimed albums: The Reson For Hardcore Vibes, The Reson For Hardcore Vibes Again and The Reson For Hardcore Vibes III.
Their rise has attracted some high-profile admirers. Iggy Pop has repeatedly championed the band on his BBC Radio 6 Music show, described them as “the most exciting band in the world right now”, and used their single MR. NOBODY as walk-on music for his own shows and invited them to join his UK tour.
His support has helped push the band even further into the spotlight, but their reputation ultimately comes down to one thing: unforgettable live performances packed with energy, wit and attitude.
Joining them are Birthrite, whose explosive blend of post-punk and alternative metal continues to prove that British rock is alive, loud and impossible to ignore. Combining bruising riffs with raw intensity, they provide the perfect support for an evening built on volume, catharsis and controlled chaos.
A midweek dose of punk mayhem, social commentary and hardcore vibes awaits at The Victoria. Whether you’re there to laugh, shout, dance or question everything, Joe & The Shitboys promise a night unlike any other.
