Curator giving tour of Living Ruins exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery

Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum has been successful in its bid for funding from Arts Council England’s coronavirus emergency response fund.

There are 14 commissions available for artists, creative practitioners and performers in the new ‘From the Art Gallery with Love’ project.

Digital artworks and online events, such as Museum After Hours, will be created to engage with people who are isolated as well as the wider community.

Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum are delighted to be commissioning a series of online artworks and community events following their successful bid for funding from Arts Council England’s emergency response fund, created to support the cultural sector during the pandemic. As many continue to rely on technology to engage with the outside world, ‘From the Art Gallery with Love’ will connect local artists and performers with the public – digitally – to provide learning, creativity and entertainment at home. The project will support a wide range of groups within Worcestershire’s communities by improving access to culture for those most at risk of being isolated during this time.

There are 14 creative commissions up for grabs, including a range of large and small artistic projects and opportunities to perform during online events like the popular Museum After Hours series. Successful artists will create exciting interactive events, discussions and artworks inspired both by the city’s museum collections and the pandemic in Worcestershire, to give the public a chance to connect with others and reflect on their shared experiences. The Art Gallery & Museum sees the project as an important step towards encouraging new and lasting relationships in local communities..

Gemma Dhami, Museums Learning Manager for Museums Worcestershire, says “We are excited to work with creative practitioners to reimagine our collections and produce wonderful digital experiences for our communities. Museums Worcestershire’s collections are an inspiration to so many, and through this project we can bring this experience to many others through bold and experimental content in these uncertain times. We are grateful for this opportunity provided by Arts Council England.”

Those wishing to apply can visit www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/collections/ for more information about the project.
