Music Spoken Here presents: Alex Hitchcock Quartet
The Marr’s Bar, 12 Pierpoint Street, Worcester WR1 1TA
Thursday 25th June, 7:30pm doors for 8pm start

The progressive, fortnightly ‘Kind of Jazz’ series of gigs programmed by Music Spoken Here at The Marr’s Bar in Worcester, draws to a close with its final event before the summer break. The closing show, on Thursday 25th June, features saxophonist and Ivor Novello-nominated composer Alex Hitchcock, described by the BBC as leading the charge…of new jazz music being created in the UK” and “an astonishingly quick thinking virtuoso” by Jazzwise Magazine.

London-born Hitchcock, who has lived in New York for the last couple of years but is now returning to the UK, was the second saxophonist to appear on the Music Spoken Here programme back in November 2022, with the jazz-funk band Resolution 88. The following year, he mentored Birmingham-based young saxophonist Dan Lockheart through the Jazz Central Mentoring Scheme, culminating in a performance of Lockheart’s compositions developed through the scheme at the Marr’s Bar, with Hitchcock featured in Lockheart’s quintet.

This time, following sold-out album launches in New York and London, he’s back with his own cutting edge quartet performing music from his new album, Letters From Afar, a sonic correspondence across emotional, geographic, and artistic distances”
