South American musical traditions meet jazz, chamber music and contemporary influences when LUMBRE bring their distinctive sound to Malvern and Herefordshire this November.

The quintet arrives at Elmslie House, Malvern, on Friday 6 November, before heading to Hellens Manor on Saturday 7 November, for two intimate concerts built around the extraordinary musical traditions of South America.

LUMBRE’s line-up of voice, piano, seven-string guitar, violin and cello gives the music an unusual depth and colour, with traditional rhythms and songs given a fresh interpretation. Expect everything from candombe, zamba and carnavalito to huayno and chacarera, alongside original compositions.

It’s a musical journey stretching from the Andes to the Rio de la Plata, drawing on songs that have become part of the fabric of Latin American music, while allowing plenty of room for the individual musicians to bring their own influences to the mix.

At the heart of the group is vocalist Aixa Figini, alongside pianist and musical director Ariel Rodriguez, seven-string guitarist Franco Dall’Amore, violinist Marian Yanchyk and cellist Sandra Martins.

With its intimate instrumentation and rich South American roots, LUMBRE promises something a little different – a concert where folk traditions, sophisticated musicianship and contemporary influences meet.
