Gig Preview: Martin Stephenson & The Daintees
West Malvern Social Club, Malvern, WR14 4AY
Saturday 27th June 2026
There are few artists on the UK live circuit quite as beloved—or as difficult to categorise—as Martin Stephenson. A singer-songwriter, storyteller, guitarist and natural entertainer, Stephenson has spent four decades carving out a unique musical path that blends folk, rock, blues, jazz, country and pop into something entirely his own.
On Saturday 27 June 2026, Martin Stephenson & The Daintees return to the intimate surroundings of West Malvern Social Club, promising an evening packed with exceptional musicianship, humour and the kind of warmth that has made Stephenson one of Britain’s most enduring live performers.
Born and raised in the North East, Stephenson began busking as a teenager before developing the distinctive songwriting style that would define his career. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of genres and artists, he created a sound that effortlessly shifts between heartfelt balladry, infectious melodies and dazzling guitar work.
Alongside The Daintees, Stephenson enjoyed critical acclaim throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing a string of much-loved albums including Boat to Bolivia, Gladsome, Humour and Blue and Salutation Road. Their music combined lyrical intelligence with adventurous arrangements, earning a devoted following that remains strong today.
What truly sets Stephenson apart, however, is his reputation as a live performer. His concerts are renowned for their spontaneity, wit and intimacy, with songs often interwoven with anecdotes and observations that leave audiences laughing one moment and deeply moved the next.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering his music for the first time, this Malvern appearance offers a rare chance to experience one of the UK’s finest and most distinctive performers in a close-up setting.
The show will also feature art by Juliet Mootz with a series of paintings and a book produced in collaboration with Martin called ‘Songs Painted’ Edition 1 – Boat to Bolivia’.
