I’m writing this almost a week after the Reading Festival, which was as much a landfill site as it was a music festival. The gleeful lack of respect was enough to make a middle-aged man start heckling people in Worcester High Street with the words “back in my day!”
Kidderminster-based restsecroW(s) – yes, that’s a plural of Worcester backwards – are a heavy rock four-piece who are all currently still awaiting their 18th birthday. Their new single ‘Follow’ is almost enough to restore a person’s faith in youthful humanity. I wish they had been at Reading instead of the offspring of the Beckhams and Dave ‘oops, I’ve sired another child’ Grohl. ‘Follow’ is about the fallout of a break-up, and frontman (frontchild?) Luca sounds as peeved as a four times divorcee forced to relinquish the house, the car, and the dog.
restsecroW(s) count bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Fontaines D.C. amongst their influences, and boy does it show. ‘Follow’ was recorded in a studio in the aptly named village Rock, which is a stone’s throw from Bewdley. One can only imagine what the countryside dwellers thought of the noise. On the single, George whacks his drums with the force of an especially grumpy Thor.
‘Follow’ is being used by the Midlands-based Laney Amplification as the soundtrack for the launch of their latest product, AUDIOHUB. The company was set up in 1967 while Lyndon Laney was in The Band of Joy with John Bonham and Robert Plant. Simon Fraser-Clark from Laney Amplification says:
“The new AUDIOHUB range is a multi-input amplifier that allows players to plug lots of different instruments into it, at the same time, which makes it great for many practical uses…What better way to show the flexibility of the AUDIOHUB range than use a band like retsecroW(s), a real band making real music!”
