Halloween may be behind us, but the ghosts are far from ready to return to their graves! This December, Worcester Gilbert & Sullivan Society invites audiences to the Norbury Theatre, Droitwich, for Ruddigore – a wonderfully eccentric comic opera packed with ghostly ancestors, an ancient family curse, desperate brides and plenty of theatrical mischief.

First performed in 1887, Ruddigore is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most unusual works. At its heart is Robin Oakapple, a seemingly respectable young farmer whose carefully constructed life is threatened when his family’s dark secret catches up with him. Inheriting the title of baronet comes with a rather inconvenient condition: every baronet must commit a crime each day or face a grisly fate at the hands of his ghostly ancestors.

With professional bridesmaids, nervous lovers and a gallery of ghosts who refuse to remain quietly in their portraits, Ruddigore combines Sullivan’s memorable score with Gilbert’s sharp wit and wonderfully absurd storytelling.

Worcester Gilbert & Sullivan Society brings together local performers and musicians to keep the much-loved works of Gilbert and Sullivan alive for audiences across the region. Whether you are a lifelong G&S enthusiast or have never experienced a comic opera before, Ruddigore promises a lively and entertaining night at the theatre – and a reminder that the spooky season is not quite over yet!
