Celebrate World Poetry Day with Worcester’s poets as they SPEAK UP, SPEAK LOUD, and SPEAK VOLUMES at a brand new, trendy, and unique arts-oriented venue. Whether you’re an aspiring poet, an art lover, or looking for Worcestershire-based businesses and creatives, this one-day-only event is a treasure-trove for creatives to network and showcase their talents.
SPEAK VOLUMES! is a student-led public event at The Artery Gallery, also known as Railway Arch 28. The event will feature a diverse range of accomplished and emerging poets from various backgrounds, both local and beyond. The event will have four main elements for participants to enjoy:
First, the Gallery will showcase a multimedia exhibition of poetry in all its forms, from cut-and-paste collage to intricate painting. This colourful series of poetic visual works will feature pieces from Worcester students and emerging artists. Some original pieces and prints will also be available for purchase.
The Spoken Word Hour will feature a set list of Worcestershire’s finest poets and slam artists, including several Worcestershire Poets Laureate, sharing their work live from 7:30-8:30pm. Please be aware this section may contain themes and unsuitable language for young children.
The Marketplace will house a variety of marketplace stalls featuring small, locally-owned businesses. You can find everything from local authors’ anthologies to stickers, prints, and vegan doughnuts that cater to everyone’s tastes.
Finally, an exclusive Arts and Meditation Workshop hosted by local artist Yasmin Agilah will explore mindfulness and relaxation through doodling and creating.
The event has been organized by LGBT+ and disabled students to showcase the creations of young adult poets and artists from marginalized backgrounds. SPEAK VOLUMES! aims to amplify the creativity and audacity of Worcestershire’s home-grown crafters, performers, and a diverse host of new poets.
